The 23rd of May 2000 is the date when the UEFA Executive Committee approved the introduction of the European Women’s club competition as UEFA Women’s Cup. On the 9th season in 2009/10 it was launched again as the UEFA Women's Champions League. Their winning streak was disrupted by VfL Wolfsburg (won the 2012/13 and the 2013/14 seasons) and FFC Frankfurt who won the 2014/15 season. After this long break, Lyon came back in force and since the 2015/16 they have been winning. This last season, they won against VfL Wolfsburg who missed their chance of taking a third title.
