Formula 1 2020 Season and Latest Updates

Formula 1 2020 Season and Latest Updates

At the very beginning of this year, Formula 1 released an exciting calendar for 2020 with record breaking 22 Grands Prix. This year marks the 70th anniversary of F1 so everything was planned with a start in Australia on March 15. However, none of us knew that everything would be delayed due to the worldwide pandemic.

Later the record breaking 22-race calendar was shortened to only 17 races and the start had given in the Austrian Grand Prix in July 3. 9 races were concluded until this day and the 10th round is soon to start in Russia on September 25. At the moment Lewis Hamilton is taking the lead with 6 races won. He even broke a new record on the 8th round’s qualifying race and set the fastest Formula One lap ever to grab pole position at the Italian Grand Prix by pushing his Mercedes racemate Valtteri Bottas into the second place with just 0.069 seconds.

Tuscany Grand Prix

Just today the 9th race was concluded with Lewis Hamilton winning the Tuscany Grand Prix. Thus, the British driver has gotten his 90th victory in his carrier. Hamilton, with his Mugello victory, set another great record by winning at 31 different tracks. While Hamilton’s racemate Bottas finished in second, Red Bull driver Alex Albon finished in third and became the first Thai driver on a Formula 1 podium!

The first F1 race in Mugello started quite troubled. After Max Verstappen's regression due to his crash with Pierre Gasly at the start, there was another crash where four cars were involved. Apparently, Alfa Romeo's Antonio Giovinazzi, Kevin Magnussen's Haas, Nicholas Latifi's Williams, and McLaren's Carlos Sainz were involved in the crash and they all got out of their car without injuries. The race was red-flagged right after this second crash.

In the last part of the race, Racing Point driver Lance Stroll had a high-speed accident on the Arrabiata corner while he was in the 4th place and as a result, the race was red-flagged for the second time.

İstanbul Park back in the race!

Formula One is set to return to İstanbul Park in Turkey after a nine-year gap.

The Turkish Grand Prix was previously held between the years of 2005 and 2011. Now it is planned to take place on November 15 at İstanbul Park.

Due to the pandemic, the first 4 months of schedule that planned to take place in Australia, Vietnam, China, and the Netherland were all canceled. While Bahrain is decided to host a double race at Sakhir Circuit, 5 of the original races to be held in Singapour, USA, Japan, Mexico, and Brazil were scrapped off. Instead, other than the Turkish Grand Prix, 2 more races in Germany and Portugal were added to the calendar. The shortened season of 2020 will later conclude as usual with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at Yas Marina on December 13.
