The 52-year-old had been in advanced talks with Spurs since June, on becoming a possible successor of Jose Mourinho but ties broke down between them as there were some disagreements over key issues. However, having worked with Fabio Paratici at Juventus who’s now in a position at Tottenham, served as one of the key factors for his move to Spurs thanks to their strong relationship.
"I am extremely happy to return to coaching, and to do so at a Premier League club that has the ambition to be a protagonist again," said the Godfather. This was as a result of him been out of work, since leaving Inter Milan after winning the Serie A title at the end of last season.
Three at the back; the marauding wing-backs and the strike partners working in tandem...
This is the same tactical approach Conte has used in his previous clubs and it has proven very successful. For example, his Chelsea side’s title triumph of 2016/17 was built on a three back of Cesar Azpilicueta, David Luiz and Gary Cahill. Juventus, the Italian national team and, more recently, with Inter Milan, are successes achieved using the same approach. This has placed him as one of the system’s most successful advocates.
"I can't wait to start working to convey to the team and the fans the passion, mentality and determination that have always distinguished me, as a player and as a coach." – Stated the new manager.
Meanwhile, Paratici made reference to Conte’s vast experience and trophy-winning pedigree, by saying that his records “speak for him”. And with so much confidence, he vouched "I know first-hand the qualities Antonio can bring to us, having worked with him at Juventus, and look forward to seeing his work with our talented group of players".
These are the expectations both the club and fans are waiting anxiously to see met throughout his reign. Will he maintain this standard in elevating Spurs to the top? Stay tuned to our news section as we keep unveiling this story.
